Christmas comes early for Alex’s young soccer players
The Rotary Club of Morningside has come alongside local township soccer club, Alexandra Black Poison FC, to cheer them up with new kit, balls and a whole lot more.
After the underprivileged soccer club’s equipment shed was looted, their home playing ground rezoned for student accommodation, and a tragic incident took the life of their star U13 player, Kabelo, we felt the boys could use some cheering up.
Though the setbacks don’t seem to have stopped the popular local soccer club from performing to expectations in all their respective leagues. The team has an enviable track record and has produced more than its fair share of big players, despite having next to no formal resources. The club is run out of the pockets of its managers and the coaches, and the goodwill of volunteers and supporters in the community.
Rotary Morningside plans to partner with the FC club and help them become more financially viable through merchandising, sponsorships and better systems and processes.
The goods will be handed over at the Alex Stadium on Friday at 2:30. We’d love for you to make it. The Senior team is playing at 4pm. We’ll have special seats reserved for the Rotarians and media. Safe parking is available on 12th Road. It’s all very secure. The stadium was built for the World Cup and is world class.
